How Often Should I Change My Air Filter?
To our licensed professionals, changing an air filter is just a habit, but we understand that not everyone thinks like a Heath’s Air HVAC professional. So we thought we’d explain why it’s important to change your air filter and when you should change it.
First, we feel that you should understand what the primary purpose of your air filter is. Its job is to keep dirt and dust out of your HVAC system. Especially in Arizona homes, there is quite a bit of dust and debris that builds up over a period of time. And that build up can start to give your unit quite a bit of a problem if the filter is not regularly cleaned and changed.
One of the most common problems we hear from our customers is that the system seems to shut off too quickly. Typically, if that is happening, it means your air filter is getting clogged. It also means all that dust and dirt is going directly into your air conditioning unit. This will result in your air conditioning unit having to work much harder than it needs to. This wear and tear on the air conditioning unit will cause a higher probability of the parts needing to be replaced more frequently or worse, a full-on breakdown. Plus, if your system is working too hard, you will notice it on your utility bill. Even though we’re available for emergency repair services and a/c replacement, we would hate to have you experience a preventable breakdown.
We recommend checking and changing your air conditioning filter at least once a month. Especially during the peak season. We know that as much as you love us, seeing us monthly is more often than we think you would like to see your Heath’s Air service guys. Besides, we know that changing your air filter is one job that you can usually handle on your own. If you feel that this is not something you’re comfortable doing on your own for the first time, then give Heath’s Air a call. We are more than happy to come out and show you how to do it, and we can even do a quick maintenance check to make sure everything is running the way it should.
At Heath’s Air, we are here to help and answer any questions you may have. The temps warm up in Arizona each summer, and if you are in need of an AC Unit Tune-Up, give us a call!
